Readers speak: The buck stops at the top of our federal government. Shouldn’t it? Letter to the Editor

As the government strike enters another week, both Democratic and Republican members of Congress and the Senate continue to play the blame game. In the past, the buck always stopped at the top, yet the executive branch of government, the only one that can truly fix this mess, is doing nothing. Our President could tell the House Speaker to make a deal, and this problem would be solved very quickly. I truly believe most Republicans and Democrats do not want to see their people lose their healthcare, and we are starting to see many people in Congress speaking up on both sides of the aisle. The Healthcare cost in this country keeps going up today in America, and not only for the millions of Americans who have Obamacare, who will lose their subsidies and possibly have no healthcare at all, but also for everyday citizens. This problem with healthcare is a huge problem facing most Americans.

Has anyone received their plan for next year in the annual notice of changes for 2026, based on last year’s insurance cost, and noticed that many services have increased, while only a few remain the same as last year? I have lost some coverage that really helped me to cover some of the cost of over-the-counter drugs, which were slashed.

Our elected leaders need to fix these types of problems because they are responsible for them. We, the people, must stop sending people to Washington to run the government, both Republicans and Democrats, who cannot compromise or do their job for the American people. We need to restore government services, provide quality healthcare for all Americans, and then address the many other economic issues, like the rising cost of many things in this country! We are seeing prices go up on most goods and services, and food in this country, with no end in sight. Please get in touch with your representatives and let your voices be heard peacefully. Our elected leaders should stop passing the blame on each other and make clear, concise leadership decisions for the American people, or perhaps they do not need to be in Washington. The buck stops at the top of our federal government, and the entire leadership team needs to take responsibility for creating positive change for the American people. God Bless America!
